Passport and Passion

Jersey, Channel Islands

Jersey, Channel Islands

Don’t you just hate it when you think you have something in your possession only to find out the moment you need it; you don’t.

I needed my passport number to complete travel forms for a trip to the island of Jersey, which is part of the Channel Islands situated between England UK and Normandy France.

A trip into Little Rock was required to obtain my passport from the bank. Once in the secure area of the bank I proceeded to unlock the safety deposit box. I was thankful that I kept the passport in a safe place knowing it will be there when time to travel overseas arose. On opening the envelope marked Passports I removed the contents; none of which were mine. I checked and rechecked, then checked again.  I found passports for other family members but not mine. Time to empty all the contents of the box, it had to be in there, this is where it belonged.

I searched every item in the box but still my passport did not materialize. I needed the number to complete the forms american-878059_1920and I needed the passport in order to travel. I could feel an “Oh Sugar” moment rising up but I refused to panic.  Instead I chose to talk to God about my missing passport. Lets be honest, if God doesn’t know the whereabouts of my passport then no one knows.

I asked the Holy Spirit to bring to my mind where I had placed the passport. I knew the passport wasn’t lost it was just misplaced.  It wasn’t at the bank so it had to be at home.

The search began again when I arrived back home.  I had already done a quick search of the file drawer prior to going to the bank and found nothing. This time as I slipped my hand into the first pocket of the drawer I felt a small book shaped object. Could it my passport? Indeed it was! I was one little happy camper. It’s marvelous how things fall into place when we put our trust in the Lord.

Sweet and Gentle

As I have journeyed in my walk with the Lord I have had times of misplacing a few things, such as a sweet and gentle spirit, passion for His Word, for prayer and passion for Jesus. Somewhere along the line I exchanged passion for ritual. It happened so slowly that I was not aware of my decaying level of passion for sometime.

But God!

I love how the Holy Spirit leads us and shows us what we have misplaced and then leads and guides us into finding them again. Have you misplaced something? Perhaps peace, joy, passion, hope, trust and ….(you fill in the blank). Don’t panic, don’t despair, God is for you. He loves you and wants to restore you. He wants to fill you with His peace and renew your passion for Him.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV

I have found in my walk with the Lord that when the Holy Spirit shows me something I have misplaced such as a sweet spirit, my heavenly Father is more than delighted to create and renew a right spirit in me.  All I needed to do was ask. He will do the same for you.

  1. Excellent post, Helena! I especially like your statement: “I could feel an “Oh Sugar” moment rising up but I refused to panic. Instead I chose to talk to God about my missing passport.” It truly is a choice to trust God.
